About the Course

Microsoft Power BI Complete touches on basic and some advanced Power BI features and capabilities. This makes use of a number of sample files to familiarize students with the functionalities of Power BI. The capabilities include but not limited to  connecting to data sources, data transformation and modeling and visualization. Though around 70-80% of the course focus on Power BI Desktop, it will touch Power BI Service and will require a trial or full license for the activities.


Target Audience

Previous users of Microsoft Excel, Data Analysts, Business Officers, report and dashboard users.


Pre-requisites

Awareness on data analytics, awareness on Microsoft Excel files and tables.


Module 1: Getting & Importing Data

  • Importing Excel Data Models.


Module 2: Model Data, Combining & Merging Data, Creating Relationships

between tables

  • Transforming Data.

  • Reducing Data with the Query Editor.

  • Inserting custom columns.

  • Appending & Merging Data.

  • Creating relationships between tables.


Module 03: Create Visualizations and Reports

  • Creating text visuals, charts, Cards & table matrix, tree maps.

  • Using a slicer to filter visuals.

  • Creating a map visualization.


Module 04: Publishing Power BI Report

  • Publishing to the Power BI service.

  • Republishing a dataset to the Power BI service.

  • Pinning & Sharing Dashboards.


Module 05: Using Q & A an Quick Insights

  • Using Q & A analysis.

  • Using Quick Insights.


Module 06: Building a data model using DAX

  • Loading individual tables.

  • Implementing measures.

  • Creating calculated columns.

  • Improving the report by using measures.


Module 07: Data Refresh in Power BI

  • Understanding Data Refresh.

  • Configure schedule refresh.

  • Refresh a dataset created from a Power BI Desktop file-local.

  • Refresh a dataset created from a Power BI Desktop file-cloud.

  • Refresh a dataset created from Excel workbook local.

  • Refresh a dataset created from a comma separated value file on One Drive.


Module 8: Building a data model using DAX

  • Loading individual tables.

  • Implementing measures.

  • Creating calculated columns.

  • Improving the report by using measures.


Module 09: Sharing the Dashboard

  • Inviting a user to see a dashboard.

  • Creating a group workspace in Power BI.

  • Turning on sharing with Microsoft OneDrive for Business.


Module 10: Creating Solutions

  • Importing and analyzing data from a web page.

  • Analyzing sales data from Excel and oData Feed.

  • Facebook Analysis.


Module 11: Use of Power BI Mobile Apps

  • Power BI Mobile Installation.

  • Viewing Reports and dashboards.

  • Mobile Share of Dashboard.


Module 12: Data Refresh in Power BI

  • Understanding Data Refresh.

  • Configure schedule refresh.


Note: For Day 2 of Power BI complete, client must have active Power BI trial or subscription. The trainer will use the trial or subscription of 1 student to demonstrate and teach the Power BI Service features.
